Egg-citing Egg Hunts at the Library!

For those with KIDS and TEENS, we’re hosting 2 indoor EGG HUNTS this year! We need a head count to prepare enough eggs for each hunt, so call or stop in at the library to register by March 19th.

For CHILDREN ages 1-10:
Not-Your-Ordinary Egg Hunt, Saturday, March 23rd at 9:30 AM. This is an egg hunt with a fun twist, we are turning the egg hunt into a scavenger hunt! Each participant will have a checklist of particular eggs to find! (Find a blue egg, a bunny egg, etc.) Each participant will get to find eggs and also need to locate a number of different items hidden throughout the library to complete the scavenger hunt.

For TWEENS and TEENS (please note we have updated the time of the event to 7:30 PM to accommodate for daylight savings time):
Not-Your-Ordinary GLOW-IN-THE-DARK Egg Hunt, Friday, March 22nd at 7:30 PM. Another scavenger hunt styled egg hunt, but we are turning off the lights and putting glowsticks in the eggs! Each participant will have a checklist of 13 eggs to find, and a list of other items hidden throughout the library to complete the hunt!

*Filled eggs have generously been provided by the Genesee Valley Greenway State Park.

Monday Morning Book Club

Join us March 18th at 10:30 AM to discuss
West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge!

An emotional, rousing novel inspired by the incredible true story of two giraffes who made headlines and won the hearts of Depression-era America.

It’s 1938. The Great Depression lingers. Hitler is threatening Europe, and world-weary Americans long for wonder. They find it in two giraffes who miraculously survive a hurricane while crossing the Atlantic. What follows is a twelve-day road trip in a custom truck to deliver Southern California’s first giraffes to the San Diego Zoo. Behind the wheel is the young Dust Bowl rowdy Woodrow. Inspired by true events, the tale weaves real-life figures with fictional ones, including the world’s first female zoo director, a crusty old man with a past, a young female photographer with a secret, and assorted reprobates as spotty as the giraffes.

Part adventure, part historical saga, and part coming-of-age love story, West with Giraffes explores what it means to be changed by the grace of animals, the kindness of strangers, the passing of time, and a story told before it’s too late.

New!! LIBRARY OF THINGS!

We are excited to announce the addition of our “Library of Things”!

Thanks to a grant from the Foundation for Southern Tier Libraries we were able to purchase a variety of items that can be checked out just like other library materials such as books and DVD’s.  We surveyed the Fillmore community this past summer asking residents what they would like to see in this new collection. Our goal was to provide items for community members to try before purchasing, or to borrow things they may need occasionally and might not want to invest in.  These “things” are available for checkout with a Fillmore library card in good standing for those 18 and over:
